If I am not using a custom domain name can I somehow shorten the domain name to be shorter so that it is not using the full name of the HOA in the domain?

Unfortunately we cannot change/shorten the website name if you are not using a custom domain. Currently it's coded to mimic the full name of the HOA. You could suggest that your owners save the website as a bookmark. If you do decide to get a custom domain name we can help you redirect it to the website. Or if you want help we can get your HOA a custom domain and host the website on a custom domain as opposed to the EasyHOA provided url.
